At Les Voies, the Food Technology curriculum ensures that students are given the opportunity to learn how to cook, create and taste a variety of foods from different cultures in a well-equipped kitchen.

The curriculum has been sequenced to ensure that learning builds upon pre-requisite knowledge. It has been designed using the website foodafactforlife.org.uk, which has been funded by the UK Government to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, healthy cooking, food sourcing and food sustainability.

At KS3, students begin learning basic cooking skills such as chopping, peeling, frying, baking, boiling and simmering, whilst at the same time producing delicious meals based on the curriculum.

At KS4, At KS4 there are multiple pathways for qualification to ensure success, no matter a student's starting point. Students develop their cookery skills by completing either pathway. Here they will be required to plan, prepare and cook a two-course meal and list the ingredients and equipment required. In addition, students will learn about food hygiene and safety in the kitchen, healthy eating, food storage and food label content amongst other topics.

Pathway A: Year 10 & 11 - BTEC Home Cooking Skills Level 2

Pathway B: Year 10 & 11 - BTEC Home Cooking Skills Level 1

Students who have shown an interest or skill in food technology class can be given the opportunity to complete work experience placements within a food establishment.
