At Les Voies, students attend a double practical food technology lesson each week. Here they are given the opportunity to learn how to cook a variety of foods from different cultures in a well-equipped kitchen.

KS3 students begin learning basic cooking skills such as chopping, peeling, frying, baking, boiling and simmering, whilst at the same time producing delicious meals based on the thematic curriculum.

In KS4, students develop their cookery skills by completing either the Home Cooking Skills Level 1 or Level 2 award. Here they will be required to plan, prepare and cook a two-course meal and list the ingredients and equipment required. In addition, students will learn about food hygiene and safety in the kitchen, healthy eating, food storage and food label content amongst other topics.

Students who have shown an interest or skill in food technology class can be given the opportunity to complete work experience placements within a food establishment. There is also the opportunity for students to further their knowledge at the College of Further Education 'LINKS Cookery' course in year 10.

Food Technology is the

highlight of my week!
